PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS

Don't sneak into Boston just in time for the Opening Keynote—be sure to make time in your itinerary for the pre-Conference workshops taking place Sunday, May 18. There's no better way to kick off the Conference than with an in-depth, three-hour workshop on nitty-gritty software techniques or keeping your creative fires burning. You'll find complete descriptions of all 10 workshops below.

And don't forget to check out the networking lunch. The lunch gives you a chance to meet some of your fellow attendees before the Conference starts and pick up key networking tips from host Steve Gordon, Jr.

NOTE: These are optional events not included in the Conference registration fee. Each workshop is $150, in addition to your full-Conference registration fee; the Networking Lunch is $55. For the best deal, check out the combo rate—you'll get full-Conference registration plus two pre-Conference workshops for one deeply discounted rate. (Non-Full-Conference attendees may register for pre-Conference Workshops for $250 each.)

Perfect for designers of all levels of typography and lettering experience.

You'll explore both traditional and non-traditional photo techniques, and gain the confidence you need to make the most of your photography skills (even if you think you don't have any). You'll even learn how to harness your aptitude for visual experimentation into your own stock-image collection. There's something for photographers of all levels—all you need are a digital camera, comfy shoes and a flashlight.

Transforming Your In-House Team into a World-Class Design Firm

You'll take a close look at three key points—structure (organizational charts), process (creative briefs) and valuation (charge-back systems)—that will have your team functioning like an independent design firm in no time.

Can't We All Just Get Along? How to Identify and Work with Different Types of Communicators

Communication breakdowns are at the heart of many design problems. As you become aware of differing tendencies and perceptions, you'll be better equipped to collaborate with those around you.

Transforming Your Print Designs on the Web

Do you feel like your designs lose something when you hand them over to a web developer to interpret the design online? Chris Converse can help you work more collaboratively with your web developer by jumpstarting your Photoshop design in Dreamweaver CS3. In this step-by-step tutorial, follow along as Chris:

  • creates a web page from scratch using features in Photoshop and the visual design tools in Dreamweaver
  • animates an Illustrator file in Flash and adds it to a web page
  • modifies and places video content on the web page using Photoshop Extended and Flash
  • shows you how to preview the site on mobile devices
